Welcome to the Jackson Parish Clerk of Court website. We hope you will enjoy using our site and will find the information about the services provided by the Clerk of Court office useful.
Our office is located in Room 103 on the first floor of the Jackson Parish Courthouse at 301 Jimmie Davis Blvd in Jonesboro. The present courthouse was constructed in 1938 after the first courthouse, built in Jonesboro in 1912, was almost completely destroyed by an explosion. Fortunately few, if any, of our records were destroyed.
Vernon served as the parish seat from the time Jackson Parish was established in 1845 until an election held in March 1911 changed the parish seat to Jonesboro. Our records date back to about 1880. A courthouse fire in Vernon, before the parish seat was moved to Jonesboro, destroyed most of the records prior to then.
The Clerk of Court is the Recorder of Mortgages and Conveyances, an Officer of the District Court and the Chief Election Official of the Parish. Our records include all land, court and marriage records of the parish. We also file miscellaneous documents such as oaths, bonds, discharges and mortgages on movables (UCC) except car titles that are filed with the State.
The indexes of our land records are computerized from 1972 forward, court records from 1988 forward and marriage records from 1880 forward. We installed our imaging system in the recording department in 2004 and plan to implement an imaging system in the suit records in 2005-2006. We are imaging daily the documents filed and are in the process of recreating our old documents on images.
The Jackson Parish Clerk of Court office operates on fees generated from services rendered, not from tax revenue. All salaries and expenses of this office are paid from the fees collected by this office. Our fees are set by the Legislature. The Jackson Parish Police Jury provides us with office space and utilities in accordance with law.
Our goal is to provide you with the very best service possible. We welcome your comments and/or suggestions for our website as it changes and grows. Also, we invite you to come by and visit us personally.
